The Convict Lake trailhead is about seven miles south of Mammoth Lakes. The route follows Convict Lake's north shore into a rugged canyon. A hazardous stream crossing occurs within three miles; Mildred Lake is five miles one way and Dorothy Lake six miles one way. Trailhead and overflow parking directions are published, and overnight wilderness stays require a permit.
